Fecundity of Married Women(15-49 Years) in Korea

Abstract

|
The objective of this study was to measure the fecundity status of women in Korea. We used 2000 national fertility and family health data from Korea Institute for Healty and Social Affairs. The data in the study were based on in-person interview with a national sample of 6,034 currently married women 15-49 years of age.
In 2000, 43 percent(the estimated number of women: 3,470,042) of married women had an impaired ability to have children. Of the 3,470,042 women, 1,976,802 women had surgically sterilized for contraceptive reasons and 989,778 women¢¥s husband had male sterilization. 299,198 women were infertile and 131,911 women had surgically sterilized for non-contraceptive reasons. The distribution of married women with fecund were 57 percent(contraceptive users: 3,466,652, currently pregnancy: 378,073; non-users of contraception: 737,966)
